Dr. Cliff Steer
Dr. Clifford J. Steer is a Professor of Medicine, Director of the Physician-Scientist Training Program, and was named Associate Dean for Industry Partnerships. He received his BA in Physiology/Chemistry and MD at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He then completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. Dr. Steer accepted a Hepatology Fellowship at the NIH in the Section on Diseases of the Liver and remained on staff at the NIH for an additional 12 years. In 1989, Dr. Steer joined the University of Minnesota as a Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Genetics, Cell Biology and Development.
During his time at the University, he has been active in mentorship of PhD students and post-doctoral fellows in his laboratory. He is a member of multiple committees and has continued to be academically productive in his current area of research.
Associate Program Director
Dr. Erik Peterson
Dr. Erik J. Peterson is Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate Director of Physician-Scientist Training Program. Dr. Peterson completed post-doctoral training in T lymphocyte activation and signaling research with Dr. Gary Koretzky at the University of Pennsylvania in 2002. Dr. Peterson is a practicing Rheumatologist and key faculty member in the University of Minnesota Rheumatology Fellowship program.
Sarah Johnson Sexton is the program administrator, with over 25 years at the University of Minnesota. She is a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee and the University Senate Social Concerns Committee, and recently completed an advanced Equity and Diversity Certificate.
