First Year

Image of Bruce AldredBruce Aldred, MD grew up in southern Delaware. He attended University of Delaware where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. He graduated from Perelman School of Medicine at University of Pennsylvania and stayed at University of Pennsylvania for Internal Medicine Residency. In addition to his interest in clinical Infectious Diseases, Bruce has a zeal for teaching and medical education, specifically with a focus in combining video multimedia with medical education. In his free time he enjoys a variety of activities including skateboarding, basketball, hiking, filmmaking, learning about industrial and railroad history, and gardening. 

Image of Adelaida MatevosyanAdelaida Matevosyan, MD received her medical degree in 2002, completed Ob-Gyn residency and worked as an attending in Armenia. She earned her Ph.D. degree in 2011 from Yerevan State Medical University, Armenia after which she moved to the US.

Adele completed an Internal Medicine residency at MedStar Health (Harbor Hospital), in Baltimore, Maryland. Before starting residency, she was a research fellow at Georgia Cancer Center, Augusta where she worked on the development of combinational cancer immunotherapies and investigation of the evaluation of tumor-mediated immune suppression. After fellowship Adele is planning to focus on infectious disease in transplant patients. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, baking and solving crossword puzzles.

Image of Christine ThomasChristine Thomas, DO grew up in Northern Colorado and attended Colorado State University where she received an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science. She then worked for a couple years on a variety of epidemiologic and clinical research projects in Denver before moving to Missouri to attend Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. After medical school, she completed her Internal Medicine residency at Loyola University Medical Center outside of Chicago. Christine’s interests include epidemiology and global health. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking with her husband, attempting to cook, and frequenting coffee shops.

Portrait of Abdulqadir AhmadAbdulqadir Ahmad, DO, MPH grew up in Northern Virginia DC Maryland (DMV). He attended The Ohio State University for undergraduate where he obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Public Health. Abdul went to medical school at Lincoln Memorial University Debusk College of Medicine and then joined the Abbott Northwestern Internal Medicine Residency Program in 2013. After residency, he worked as a hospitalist for a couple of years and has now joined the University of Minnesota for Infectious Disease fellowship.

Image of Serin Edwin ErayilSerin Edwin Erayil, MBBS grew up in India and went to medical school at St John’s Medical College, Bangalore. During her time in India, she was drawn to infectious diseases among vulnerable populations and developed an aptitude for research. Later, Serin had the opportunity to study public health in Sweden and discovered her passion for epidemiology, health policies and health behavioral change. She completed a Thesis in Public Health from Umea University, Sweden, on Coping Self-Efficacy in HIV patients. Serin completed her residency in Internal Medicine from Loyola Medicine MacNeal Hospital at Chicago, where her love for infectious diseases and her zeal to take care of underserved populations were further reinforced. During her residency, she was engaged in various studies including a quality improvement project to improve the appropriateness of urinary catheter use among the resident community to mitigate Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections. Serin is excited to start her fellowship and is interested in epidemiological research, infection control and public health. In her spare time, she enjoys volleyball, hiking, ping-pong, music and dance, and is a certified WERQ Dance Fitness Instructor.

Image of Teresa FoxTeresa Fox, MD grew up in the Chicagoland area and completed her undergraduate studies in psychology and global health at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.   She moved to Cleveland, Ohio to attend medical school at Case Western Reserve University.  Teresa moved to Minnesota in 2014 for her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota. After completing residency, she enjoyed an additional year with the University Of Minnesota Internal Medicine program as a chief resident, primarily located at Regions Hospital. During residency, she began researching MRSA screening tests and their potential role in antimicrobial stewardship.  Teresa enjoys clinical infectious disease, and she has a particular interest in caring for immunocompromised patients.  Outside of medicine, Teresa enjoys spending time with her husband/family/friends and running, biking, cross-country skiing and otherwise getting outside as much as possible (summer and winter!).

Portrait of Caleb SkipperCaleb Skipper, MD grew up in a small town in rural North Dakota. He completed both his undergraduate and medical school at the University of North Dakota. He then went out west and finished his Internal Medicine residency in Spokane, WA. Caleb first developed an interest in international work after living in Ethiopia for one year, where he helped develop a laboratory to diagnose malaria in the rural countryside. He has subsequently traveled back to Ethiopia several times for various short-term medical projects. His fellowship interests include global/public health, tropical medicine, and academics/teaching. In his spare time, he enjoys the outdoors, fishing, and playing volleyball.

Portrait of Matthew Pullen Matthew Pullen, MD is originally from Fairbanks, Alaska but spent most of the last 20 years around Nashville, Tennessee. His undergraduate degree in molecular biology was earned at the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga. He completed medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2009 and went on to complete his internal medicine residency there in 2016. During residency, he had the opportunity to work abroad in Maseno, Kenya, solidifying his interest in international medicine. He has worked in molecular genetics research at the Federal Bureau of Investigation Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia and Vanderbilt University, as well as working on the group A streptococcus vaccine project at the University of Tennessee HSC. Matthew began fellowship at the University of Minnesota in July 2016, with plans to again pursue international work and explore research interests in epidemiology and virology.

Portrait of Beth Thielen Beth Thielen, MD, PhD, a native of Minnesota, completed her undergraduate studies in microbiology at the University of Minnesota before moving westward to join the combined MD/PhD program at the University of Washington. Beth completed her dissertation studies with Dr. Jaisri Lingappa in the Department of Global Health, studying the function of APOBEC3 proteins in human cell types at risk for HIV infection. She returned to Minnesota to complete her combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency with a special focus on global health, participating in clinical care and research in Uganda and Tanzania and caring for immigrant and refugee patients at the Center for International Health. She is pursuing a combined adult and pediatric infectious disease fellowship with ongoing research interests in viral pathogenesis and immunology. In her time outside the hospital, Beth enjoys traveling with her husband John, ballroom dancing, gardening and knitting.
