Summary

Dr. Shmagel received her MD degree from the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy in Russia, and completed internal medicine residency at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago. Following residency she worked as an academic hospitalist with the Northshore Healthcare System and served as a clinician-educator at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Shmagel completed her rheumatology fellowship at the University of Minnesota and received a Masters of Science Degree in Clinical Research from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health prior to transitioning to an assistant professor role with the Division of Rheumatic and Autoimmune Diseases. She has clinical expertise in chronic musculoskeletal pain, and a scientific expertise in epidemiology and data analysis. Dr. Shmagel's research interests include risk factors for development of chronic pain and osteoarthritis, with a focus on environmental triggers.
