Pharm D Student Letter of Information

May 1, 2007

Dear Firm Staff Physicians,

Beginning on May 21, 2007, one and occasionally two of the firm teams will have a Pharm D student rotating with them.  As faculty, you are not required to evaluate these students.  At the conclusion of their rotations, your residents and medical students will be asked to complete an evaluation regarding teamwork.

The Pharmacy students’ rotation dates follow:

Block 1:          5/21/07-6/22/07
Block 2:          6/25/07-7/27/07
Block 3:          7/30/07-8/31/07
Block 4:          9/03/07-10/05/07
Block 5:          10/08/07-11/9/07
Block 6:          11/12/07-12/21/07
Block 7:          1/21/08-2/22/08
Block 8:          2/25/08-3/28/08
Block 9:          3/31/08-5/02/08
** Block 6 is six weeks long instead of 5 to give students time to attend ASHP Midyear.

The pharmacist on 7A will mentor the student to increase their skills with drug therapy issues such as renal dosing, antibiotic monitoring, TPN adjustment, etc.  The student will also attend the daily interdisciplinary team rounds on 7A.  Rotating with the Firm Teams will provide a great learning experience for the student, who should also be helpful to the medicine team by researching drug therapy issues and acting as a liaison to the unit pharmacist.

The UMMC 7A rotation description and the link to the U of M College of Pharmacy expectations are at this site:  http://www.pharmacy.umn.edu/pharmd/curriculum/experiential/advanced/descriptions/acute/guidelines/home.html
