University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview 

HOSPITALIST MEDICINE CONSULTATION SERVICE
UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

  • Staffed by Faculty (only) from 7 AM - 6 PM, M-F and 7 AM – 3 PM on weekends.
  • Coverage provides urgent assistance and cross-cover on established and new consultations from 6 PM – 7 AM by UMMC Moonlighter (job code 6633), M-F and on weekends after 3 PM

INTERNAL MEDICINE CONSULT - RIVERSIDE CAMPUS

  • Request a Medicine Consult in FCIS.

SERVICES

  • Traditional consultations - We are happy to assist in the care of any hospitalized patient, especially those having multiple or complex medical diagnoses.  Studies have demonstrate improved quality of patient care in a hospitalized setting using the assistance of an Internist particularly for patients with any of the following:
  1. Diabetes – types I or II.
  2. Congestive Heart Failure.
  3. History of Myocardial Infarction or Stroke.
  4. Moderate to severe COPD.
  5. Chronic Kidney Disease (Cr 2.0 or greater).
  6. Hypertension.
  7. History of venous thromboembolic disease.
  8. Preoperative risk assessment and recommendations for risk reduction.

Specifically requesting “Medicine Consult with orders and ongoing management of XXX diagnoses will allow our Internists to:

  1. Write orders.
  2. Assist with discharge care coordination.
  3. Contact the patient’s primary physician regarding the details
    of hospitalization.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

  • Admit patients when Gen Med firms are unable and for observation after IR and GI procedures.
  • Provide education to subspecialty and surgery housestaff regarding medical management of subspecialty patients.
